Do you speak dog language? The memory game 'Woof & Me' teaches children from 4 years of age how to deal with their furry friend in a safe way.

Dogs don’t use words, but they do have a language. Dogs tell us with their bodies what they like and don’t like. To learn to speak that language you must be able to read it very well. And it is not about letters, but about reading the language the dog speaks with his body.

Polite habits are an important part of dog language. A safe distance to each other is very important, for example. Also, dogs find it threatening if you walk right up to them. And: dogs don't like to cuddle like children. When children put their arms around the dog’s neck, they are getting way too close. That is very exciting for dogs. It is much nicer to tickle the dog’s tummy.

How can you learn to speak ‘doggie’ as a child? Play this unique memory game ‘Woof & Me’ (‘Woef & Ik’) and learn, together with your parents, how to be safe with your best buddy. This way children and dogs can have a lot of fun together, and all will be safe for child and dog.

Woof & Me, the memory game

The memory game ‘Woof & Me’ (‘Woef & Ik’) consists of 48 cards (5,6 x 5,6 cm), and was developed by dog ​​behaviour expert Denise Vrolijk from Dog Livity.

Dog language can be found in two ways: what is best to do as a child in situations that are exciting for the dog, these are the drawings with a green curl. The drawings with a red cross show rude dog language, better not to do this as a child.

In the drawings with a red cross, older children can also discover the first stress signals a dog shows with its body. For example turning away head and body, licking the tongue along the nose/mouth or showing large pupils.

Martijn Lie Hap Po’s striking illustrations show what to do and not to do as a child. Take a good look at all the pictures and remember the language you can speak with your big canine friend.

You can play the memory game in two ways:

- 24 pairs: identical cards, same situation (original memory game)

- 12 pairs: same situation, different dog language (do / don't)
